'Maia Lyon-Daw as a student has been a dynamic and inquisitive individual since the beginning of her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. In this period she has grown as an artist with a broad scope and continually renewing work, both prolific and mature. She has developed her artistic interests and expression in many and varied areas, based on a strong structured educational foundation and meaningful control of her chosen media of expression.
Predominant in her studies, have been her bold experimentation with performances, music and installations, emphasizing the texture of the media and its possibilities. The field of performances has been and continues to be the main endeavor for Maia’s work, which she approaches in a systematic and precise manner, along with her capacity of communication, organizing and curatorial practice. This as a result of a strong structured educational foundation and responsible choice of expression.
Maia, through the totality of her work and the range of her interests, shows herself to be a persisting and well-rounded individual who is able to transform a mere artistic project into a meaningful and interesting work of art. Through insightful observation and unadorned mediation, she uncovers the intricacies of every medium with sensitivity and boldness. As such she succeeds in transforming something of seemingly “little”, random or insignificant value, into a substantial, rich and poetic expression.
As an emerging artist with a searching, vivid and contemporary viewpoint and continually developing work, she rightly deserves my and your support.
